Substance Use and Prevention Services

Our substance use counsellors provide a judgement free space to explore your relationship with substances. They also provide working groups and individual programming through Prime For Life®

Barbara Papp B.A, M.A

Substance Use/Co-occurring Counsellor and Prevention Educator

Barb has worked in mental health and substance use treatment services for over 25 years and specializes in working with clients who have co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use) and substance use disorder or concerns surrounding the use of substances. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Psychology, a Diploma in Addictions Counselling from Saskatchewan Polytechnic. She is in the last leg (December 2023 completion)of completing a master’s
degree from the University of South Dakota in Addictions Counselling and Prevention with a specialization in co-occurring disorders. Barb uses evidence-based practices to guide her work and has experience working with:

  • Clients with concerns surrounding their substance use

  • Clients with substance use disorder

  • Clients who have issues related to gambling

  • Clients whose loved ones are experiencing difficulties with substance use/gambling

  • Clients with co-occurring mental health issues such as anxiety, bipolar disorder,

  • major depressive disorder, psychosis and substance use

  • Barb views substance use as a health condition that is treatable and meets clients where they are at. She also encourages clients to reflect on their substance use and mental health impact on their lives. Recovery and Risk reduction are possible.

Chelsea Korpan-Sparks

Substance Use/Co-occurring Counsellor and Prevention Educator

Chelsea has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan and a Post-Degree Diploma from McMaster University in Professional Addictions and is currently working on her Bachelor of Social Work Degree.  Chelsea's skills/experience in the areas of program development, group facilitation, individual counselling and staff training have been developed through her roles with the Correctional Services of Canada and Mental Health and Addictions.  Chelsea is also an entrepreneur and leader in the health and wellness industry, she teaches Pilates locally and hosts annual Pilates retreats Internationally.  Chelsea is forever learning and growing as an individual and professional, she sees the combination of her roles to practice what she preaches in the areas of mental and physical health and wellness.  Chelsea is passionate about the Prime for Life® program because the information allows people to learn, reflect and gain insight into their lifestyle choices – it promotes prevention.  Prime for Life® is the strongest definition of self-care imaginable if you open your mind and embrace what the program offers.

An Ounce of Prevention

Working Groups and Individual Programming

Barb and Chelsea are trained to provide individual and working groups by utilizing the Prime for Life approach. Prime For Life® provides a judgment-free way of understanding how alcohol and drug-related problems develop, what we can do to prevent them, and why sometimes we need help.  Education empowers people to make informed decisions and to be able to support others.
