Our substance use counsellors provide a judgement free space to explore your relationship with substances. They also provide working groups and individual programming through Prime For Life®

Barbara Papp B.A, M.A

Substance Use/Co-occurring Counsellor and Prevention Educator

Barb has worked in mental health and substance use treatment services for over 25 years and specializes in working with clients who have co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use) and substance use disorder or concerns surrounding the use of substances. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Psychology, a Diploma in Addictions Counselling from Saskatchewan Polytechnic. She also has a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota in Addictions Counselling and Prevention with a specialization in co-occurring disorders. Barb uses evidence-based practices to guide her work and has experience working with:

  • Clients with concerns surrounding their substance use

  • Clients with substance use disorder

  • Clients who have issues related to gambling

  • Clients whose loved ones are experiencing difficulties with substance use/gambling

  • Clients with co-occurring mental health issues such as anxiety, bipolar disorder,

  • major depressive disorder, psychosis and substance use

  • Barb views substance use as a health condition that is treatable and meets clients where they are at. She also encourages clients to reflect on their substance use and mental health impact on their lives. Recovery and Risk reduction are possible.

Chelsea Korpan-Sparks B.A., AC/Dip, CCAC

Substance Use/Co-occurring Counsellor and Prevention Educator

 Chelsea is a Canadian Certified Addictions Counsellor that works with clients 16+. 

Areas of focus for individual counselling: 

  • Clients who are interested in exploring their relationship with substances.  Sober Curious?

  • Clients looking to moderate their use through a harm reduction approach.

  • Clients with co-occurring disorders (substance use & mental illness / substance use & process addiction).  Diagnosed or symptom indicated ~ anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder. 

  • Process Addictions clients, described as ~ clients with a pathological relationship with a behavior (gambling, shopping, video gaming, phone addiction, etc).

  • Family members with a loved one who has a substance use or process addiction. 

Chelsea meets clients where they are at. Her non-judgmental, strength-based and empathetic approach allows clients to learn and grow within the therapeutic space.  Chelsea utilizes a variety of evidence-based modalities in her practice with a goal of empowering clients to make informed choices that best meet their individual goals. The process of change starts when clients are ready, the first step is acceptance.

An Ounce of Prevention

Working Groups and Individual Programming

Barb and Chelsea are trained to provide individual and working groups by utilizing the Prime for Life approach. Prime For Life® provides a judgment-free way of understanding how alcohol and drug-related problems develop, what we can do to prevent them, and why sometimes we need help.  Education empowers people to make informed decisions and to be able to support others.
